Brrrr.....a little work to keep you occupied during these freezing nights!

Families, the weather outside is frightful, but keeping kiddos busy can be delightful!

Some things to do on these freezing nights at home:
-read (alone or together) own boo or home reading
-math multiplication games to learn fast facts (your child can share these....deck of cards makes it fun)

There are also some fun Youtube videos to help students remember.

-work on SS project 'I Survived' (this is an in school project, but reading more and sharing won't hurt).  Here is the link to the task details (we went over this in class yesterday and began work today): I Survived Task (Click here)

Don't Give Up!  Keep Trying:
Also, a story was read today about Perseverance about Michael Jordan.  He is one of the Greatest Of All Time NBA players.  His journey to greatness wasn't easy.  He didn't even make his high school basketball team, but he didn't give up!  This famous quote of his, might remind us to KEEP TRYING:

So glad to see everyone bundled up today! Looks like we are in a DEEP FREEZE the whole week!

Good morning!

Phys. Ed.: Students got to warm up in gym first thing this morning.  They were challenged to run 7 laps to warm up, then stretch.  We are working on Perseverance (not giving up) and had a LAVA challenge.  It was team work and creativity.  We will continue this tomorrow, as it is a wonderful challenge.

Math - Grade 4 Curriculum: Number-- Describe and apply mental mathematics strategies to determine basic multiplication facts to 9 × 9 and related division facts.
Understand and apply strategies for multiplication and related division facts to 9 x 9.
Recall multiplication and related division facts to 7 x 7.

Students brought home a goal for learning the multiplication times tables last week.  Each student conferenced with me and we wrote a positive accomplishment and a goal to work on.  We are practicing in class and students are encouraged to work on this at home too!  Ways to learn up to 7 x 7 fast as a snap are: card games (like Quick Draw, Horseshoes or Squares) which we have played in class.  Verbal games like call and answer or magic numbers, a parent or older child can call an equation and your grade 4 student could reply as fast as they can.  Mathletics is also a fantastic way to practice.

If music is your thing...here is a MASH UP for practicing the 5 tables!

Missing - TWAS....if it is at home, please send it to school as soon as you are able to!

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS....I am looking for someone to regularly come in to the class on a weekly basis to help out with tasks, read with students, play math games, and/or help with book exchange for home reading.  Please EMAIL or let Mrs. Ross know, the date and time you are willing to come in!  THANKS :)
