Dress warmly, we are entering a POLAR VORTEX!

Hello!

Today I conferenced with each student about their basic math multiplication facts and their ability to recall quickly.  It is a curriculum goal to be able to efficiently recall facts up to 9 x 9 by the end of grade four.  Please look over your child's assessment.  I wrote a compliment and a goal for each student.  Have a look and sign their assessment.  IT IS HOMEWORK FOR THEM TO RETURN THE SIGNED WORK BACK TO SCHOOL TOMORROW.  If you want to remember the goal, take a photo of their work.  I need the evidence to show them how they grow, as we move forward (but it will come home later too).

As part of our learning about perseverance, we listened to Brave Irene.  CLICK HERE TO LISTEN AGAIN.  We talked about being courageous, just like in the book.  Students will share this link with their grade 1 buddies tomorrow and will retell the beginning, middle and end as part of our reading comprehension too.

Thanks for checking the blog.  Have a great night and STAY WARM!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  Happy New DECADE!  Happy 2020!
Welcome back to school!

I had a wonderful time with my family on our New Zealand Adventure and we made it back to Calgary on time and in one piece (lol).  I am grateful for this time with my family.  This was the greatest gift.  Thank you for your patience while I was gone.  Mr. Quinn left me notes and paid compliments to many students, so thank you!

Today I had another special gift, seeing your child enter the classroom!  Each child in our class has grown in a month!  I can't believe it.  I was so happy to see their smiling faces and we had lots of hugs!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday and spent time doing the things you love with people you love too!

Perseverance:
When things get tough, we keep trying and don't give up! We reflected on our holidays and thought of something we accomplished that was hard at first.  Each of us thought of a way we persevered through a challenging time.  As we continue grade four in this NEW DECADE, we will face struggles, but sometimes that is part of learning.  Once we persevere and do something we didn't think we could, often we are extremely proud and have an AHA moment!  Here are some things we thought of as a class first thing this morning:

Here is the slideshow we created to show how we KEEP TRYING even when something is hard or scary!  PLEASE LOOK BUT DON'T CHANGE THE SHOW!  You can adjust ONLY your slide! PERSEVERANCE IN ACTION (click this link)
