Happy Valentines and Family Day!

Thank you,
WOW! We have the most thoughtful students in our class!  Everyone should be coming home with a HEART FULL OF LOVE from their classmates and myself.  Students created beautiful (repurposed) hearts and others handed out treats today!  Thanks to everyone for being so kind and for the families that provided treats.  What a surprise!

As a class we delivered 'thank you' hearts we made with our grade 1 buddies to school support staff! This made some staff members tear up!  I was so proud of our students!

Democracy at Work:
The Charity we will be supporting for our Learning Partnership was decided today.  After carefully viewing each classes' top Slideshow and voting.  The top charity agreed upon by the majority of grade 4 students is the Canadian Red Cross!  Thanks to everyone for doing their best reading, research, and creating persuasive Slideshows.  Every student learned so much with this process.  All charities were so worthy!

HOMEWORK CHALLENGE -
Try to do a few RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS over the long weekend.  We want to share these when we come back on Tuesday and see if we make the world better more than 50 times!

Reminder:
We have Scientists in School (for Simple Machines) on February 20th in the morning.  Thanks to those who have gone to Power School and let me know you have paid.  If you haven't paid yet, please do.  Thanks again!

Jump Rope for Heart
Our kick off assembly for Jump Rope for Heart really made our hearts skip a beat! Thanks to the Calgary Skip Squad for coming and demonstrating their amazing skipping skills and endurance with us. We also appreciated Megan from the Heart and Stroke Foundation sharing all about how we can keep our hearts healthy. She shared some simple tips such as using the acronym EASY. Ask your child to tell you what each letter stands from.

As a reminder, we will be fundraising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation throughout the month of February. Please use the instructions below to sign up to start fundraising. Please note: all fundraising will take place online.

Snowshoeing a lesson in PERSEVERANCE! We DID IT!

Snowshoeing Success!
Thanks to our helpful volunteers, Amanda and Andrea, we quickly learned to put on our snowshoes.  The Wildflower Pond was our learning playground for close to an hour and a half this morning.  We channelled our inner early Albertan explorer to figure out how to move in the snow with our snowshoes.  Some of us found this a challenge, while others wanted to race through the snow like Jack Rabbits! We were lucky to have help and to have a place to warm up so close by.  By snowshoeing today, we were active, got fresh air, tried to move through the snow like early settlers of this land would have, all while trying our best to have a growth mindset!  Here is proof:

IMPORTANT RESULTS OF CLASS SHARING AND VOTE:
Thank you to all students in our class for doing their best to research and make a slideshow to teach us about a charity close to your heart.  They are ALL WORTHY CHARITIES and we wish we could support them all, but we must choose one for the Learning Partnership Entrepreneurial Adventure (aka Coppercares)!  Drum roll please.....Results of our class vote: A TIE!  We will have another vote in class tomorrow - the top charities (based on votes) were - Plastic Oceans Canada and the Canadian Red Cross.
