What's the story of my name?

As part of social studies, literacy and health, we read the story called: Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes, in class today.  This is a story about a girl who learns to love her name.  This story is a wonderful discussion about THE STORY OF MY NAME!  In class, students made a graphic organizer to:

  •  retell the story in 3-4 sentences,
  • make a connection (during the read we made many text to self connections)
  • wonder about the story/message with a question
  • create a small visual (image from the story)
For homework, STUDENTS NEED TO ASK YOU THE STORY OF THEIR NAME!  This might take 10 minutes or so.  Each student needs to fill out the graphic with their details!  We will be sharing this tomorrow in class, to DISCOVER more about how WE ARE CONNECTED! THIS IS HOMEWORK!

Request:
Please have a look around your house.  We are looking for orange felt!  If you have any laying around your house, please let me know or send it to school.  THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

Coming Home Today:

-homework (see above)

Share about WHOLE BODY LISTENING!  Parents might get some of the jokes!
