Thinking Thursday!
Hey...you came back! Thank you!
Get your thinking, growth mindset. Math brain ready....
Think back, waaaaay back to yesterday and your typical day artwork. Did you know that artwork is actually a pie graph and includes fractions. Take this artwork and look at the parts of your day. THEN CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE THIS TASK. You can 'make a copy' in docs and do it online or your can print/take photo and upload.
Once you are done the Fraction Math work, please upload your learning evidence here! Please complete your math in whatever way is easiest for you right now. Once we have Google Classroom and with a little more practice, this should be easier!
Remember, please expect a link or code to sign into our new Google Classroom Meet (live virtual class chat) for Friday, April 3rd at 9:00 am! Make sure you comb your hair and brush your teeth, as this might be the first time we have seen each other since a few weeks back. By participating in this live session you will have the chance to ask questions and catch up with your classmates!

First Day of April (aka April Fools' Day....did you trick someone with a prank?).
Happy April Everyone!
I did notice that some of our friends haven't had the chance to share yet. If you are chatting or gaming with them, can you please remind them to check our blog for some learning opportunities?
As promised....here is my read aloud, thanks to Houghton Mifflin Company Boston! Did you correctly guess the animal that book was about? If you guessed, SLOTHS, you were right. :)
Score One for the Sloths
written by Helen Lester and illustrated by Lynn Munsinger
1. Thank you for listening! It seems a little strange to read to a camera and not you guys. At least this is an alternate way to continue our learning together. Now, I want you to think about the sloths in their PJs and their typical day of learning. Is it the same or different than your typical day? I bet a little of both! Please click here for your after reading task. You might want to get some crayons, a pencil, eraser and possibly print out this page (give your eyes a break from screens)! Try to finish this in about an hour. If you focus, that should be about the right amount of time. You could even do a 1/2 hour and then have a little break and then continue for another half hour until you are done. BE SURE TO SAVE THIS ARTWORK WHEN YOU ARE DONE, YOU NEED IT FOR TOMORROW!
2. When you are finished you can upload to Google Docs or take a photo, then upload it or even email it to Mrs. Ross at kaross@cbe.ab.ca. Here's the link where you can put your finished work (click this link). I can't wait to see what your day is looking like these days! You could even keep this for a time capsule about these strange days lately! BE SURE TO SAVE THIS ARTWORK WHEN YOU ARE DONE, YOU NEED IT FOR TOMORROW!

Terrific Tuesday!
Hello Grade 4 Students and Families!
Update....due to technical issues my read aloud will come on Thursday! Hint: it has to do with an animal some of us might have been acting like these past two weeks! Stay tuned.....
Thanks for your patience!
Here is a little video to make you chuckle (hopefully)!
Your LEARNING for today should equal about an hour! So start at number 1 and work down to task number 4 or whatever number you get to in an hour, unless you are engaged and enjoying your learning!
1) Invent, think, create, find Spring jokes and add them to our folder in Google Docs: SPRING JOKES March 31st. Remember to include your name! I have started the shared document for us.
(suggested time 10 minutes)
2) Write an ACROSTIC poem for Spring. I have a sample done for you!
(suggested time 30 minutes)
- If you want to type it, you will need to make a new Google Doc (use the + sign in the top left) and give it the title ________________'s(your name on the line) SPRING ACROSTIC poem.
- Alternatively to get some 'hand exercise' and practice your penmanship, you could use pencil and paper, then take a photo and upload it to the Google Docs folder that we share. Just make sure you include your name.
3) If you have time, practice your MULTIPLICATION BASIC FACTS with a CARD GAME (Unicorn, Math Multiplication War). If you need to work on your own, print off this (click the following link) multiplication bingo card and grab some dice and some buttons or beans or pasta and try to fill the bingo card!
(suggested time 20 minutes)
4) Finish your March Book Review. Before Spring Break, at the beginning of March you were to read a book and complete an online book review. I have shared the template in Google Docs here and even done a sample for you. If you haven't been reading and aren't done.....then take a DEEP BREATH and JUST READ for 30 minutes of adventures for your brain!
(suggested time 1hour or so.....depends because some of you have been working on it during your time off already. The DUE DATE has been extended until Monday, April 6th).

Keep Sharing your LEARNING with us!
STUDENT SHOWCASE OF LEARNING!
Here are some things your classmates have been doing while they are off! They shared these with me after reading our blog and trying the tasks I have given you. A classmate created this word-search for you to do. Thanks for being so thoughtful SC!!! I will print this at home and give it a try this evening, the first day of Spring Break!!!
I have been at school all week, checking email and Google Docs. In our SHARED FOLDER I added:

Also, I am checking your writing on Book Creator too! So if you have time, finish your books. Mrs. BRice and I are going to try to find a way to share with our buddies some digital way!! So keep working. BUT TAKE A BREAK TOO!!!! YOUR EYES WILL NEED A REST FROM SCREENS. Try to remember that it is taking me a while, to take photos and reply to each of you individually, but I love it and will do my best. Just be patient. ::
Fun Friday!
Student Led Conferences:
Conferences would have been yesterday and today, maybe you got an email 'reminder' like I did from PowerSchool. Now is the time, when we want you to reflect and celebrate the great learning you have been doing these past few months of grade four! There's lots to celebrate! I have some questions to help guid your thinking and reflections on your learning this year so far (families can do their with students):
Math - If you finished your AREA calculations for your room and the quilt problem, let's think about big numbers!
Can you solve this ZOO TRIP problem?

After solving this problem, take a picture of your work and email it to Mrs. Ross at kaross@cbe.ab.ca
Here is a book to get you thinking about our next focus in Math! The Great Divide: A Mathematical Marathon by Gayle Ann Dodds....
Reading: Great job class, on EPIC books we got a CLASS REWARD! Together we have read 25 books! Let's see if we can read 50 books by the end of March??
A FEW LAST Things to make you smile (before Spring Break):

I have some questions to help guid your thinking and reflections on your learning this year so far (families can do their with students):
- What have you learned this year at school that you think is most interesting (and why)?
- What new skill or strategy are you most proud of? Explain this.
- What is something you found challenging and how did you persevere?
- Talk about a time where you found something really hard, but you didn't give up!
- What have you discovered this year about how you learn best?
If you want to make a Google Slide or a little video or a drawing or mind map or ?? about this reflection, please take a photo and email (kaross@cbe.ab.ca) it to me or share it on Google Docs (kaross@educbe.ca)!

Trout Blog
Copperfield School now has a TROUT blog! The tank is still in the Learning Commons....keep track of their journey by visiting their new blog! CLICK HERE FOR TROUT BLOG!
Science: Take a stroll in nature and use your senses to really observe!
Here is what I saw yesterday at my house around 4pm. I just had to take the time to listen and look up! They are birds, either Waxwings or Starlings, I think. They made a loud humming noise and then a woosh when they all turned together! Using your estimation skills how many birds do you think are in this flock? (The beeping is my car door, try to ignore that).
Literacy and Math Night was a SUCCESS!
Also, there are some fun things to learn by using resources from our FAMILY MATH AND LITERACY NIGHT that was held way back in February! They are on the school website and can be accessed here by CLICKING HERE FOR MATH/LITERACY INFORMATION!
Have a HEALTHY AND MEMORABLE SPRING BREAK WITH YOUR LOVED ONES!

Happy First Day of SPRING!
Happy News:
I was so happy to talk to some of you on the phone today or to see your family member at the school picking up your shoes these last two days! Thank you for connecting with us - at a distance of course! Through these brief moments I have learned that many of your are still figuring out AREA, working on a cardboard arcade game, finishing up your story on Book Creator, and reading your novel for your book review! I AM SO PROUD OF YOU ALL! I am happy to know you can keep on learning in so many simple and creative ways!
Math:
This is the problem I want you to try to solve! You could even design your own quilt and colour the pattern and figure out the area of a section! Can you do it? Take a photo and email your strategy and answer!
Reading - keep reading that novel you were working on (if not, choose a new book on EPIC). Remember this is due on March 31st - I have posted in Google Docs (Shared With Me) your March Book Review Template that you can use! Some classmates have already begun! Try your best.
Writing - Many of you took home your TWAS on the weekend, you can keep a DIARY going of each day. Try recording some things you learned or are grateful for too! You will be amazed at what you will notice.
Science -
Simple Machines: use some of your household recycling to make a cardboard arcade game and take a photo or video and email me! I would love to share it on our blog (if your family is okay with that)!
Plants: do you have a houseplant? See if you can take over the responsibility for it/them! Track your watering, growth (measure it), etc. When you go outside, look for changes in the plants are they getting buds yet? How do plants show it is Spring and time for new growth?
I will post more soon! For now, I think you will be busy. :)
Just for Fun! This made me smile. I hope it makes you show your PEARLY WHITES! He is the Author/Illustrator of Elephant and Piggy Books!
Spring Break would have started now, so we are all on official Spring Break as of Friday! I will check emails regularly Friday March 20th and after Spring Break, so keep the photos of you learning, discovering, getting fresh air coming! I will email back when I see your email!
Check my previous blogs to see the log-ins for EPIC, MATHLETICS, RAZ KIDS and hopefully you remember your login to Google Docs. If not, please email me! Click here to email: kaross@cbe.ab.ca
